Pastors

Rev. Karl Kroger

Welcome to McCabe!

Appointed as the Lead Pastor of this church, my family and I moved to the Bismarck/Mandan area in June of 2020. We are living near one of the many wonderful parks and we find ourselves neighbors to some of the sweetest people in the world. We’ve also discovered so many kind and generous people here at McCabe.

I see my role as stewarding the incredible spiritual formation that has already occurred in the people of this church, and humbly and boldly journeying with them as a servant leader. Our purpose is to share and manifest the love of God with others in our communities and world. Put into other words, our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

One of the ways I see that play out is through helping people live loved. I believe we all share a calling to help others discover and know they are dearly loved by God, and to encourage persons to then live their lives in gracious and joyous response. I get the honor of championing that cause around here, and mobilizing an incredible congregation, group of church leaders, and staff toward that aim.

We would love to get acquainted with you, answer any questions you might have, learn from you, or pray with you. We hope you will consider participating in our worship and in our other ministries. We desire for you to fully live into all of God’s dreams for you, and purposes God wants to accomplish through you.

Live Loved,
Pastor Karl

Rev. Jenny Hallenbeck Orr

In my office here at McCabe United Methodist Church, I have a framed photo of my younger sister and me posing near the North Dakota Capitol sign on E. Boulevard. The photo was taken by our mother when we were on a family vacation in the late 1980’s. (Though my sister and I were raised in Sioux Falls, SD, my mom grew-up in Bismarck. On this particular trip, she was taking us on a little tour of her childhood.) The day this photo was taken was, literally, picture-perfect: the Capitol is prominent against the blue, summer sky and there is a row of fluffy, white clouds decorating the area above the west side of the building.

When I look at this photo today, I am aware that McCabe UMC would have been right in my view as I smiled at the camera… and the 10-year-old me in the photo couldn’t have had any clue that, 25 years later, she’d be heading to Bismarck to live and to work as the pastor of that big church across the street.

Isn’t that just how God works in our lives and world? Through the twists and turns of life, God surprises us, blesses us, guides us, angers us, challenges us, transforms us… and, most importantly, God is with us through it all.

“The best of all is, God is with us.” – John Wesley

I arrived in Bismarck in late June of 2014 to be the Pastor at McCabe. During my time here, I met and married my husband, Derrick, welcomed my college-aged stepson, and, in the summer of 2018, Derrick and I had a baby boy.

In addition to the joys and changes in my personal life, since June of 2014, I’ve had the privilege of being in a front-row seat for the holy and challenging work God has been doing here at McCabe – work you can read about throughout this site. Would you like to join us for it?

Peace in Christ,
Pastor Jenny
